Earrings?! You’ve got to be kidding me!
April Orders Bring May Catalogs May 12, 2005
This is turning into catalog week with new issues from Patternworks and KnitPicks arriving. Patternworks seems to be concentrating on offering more patterns this time around instead of fitting as many yarns as possible in. It’s still fun to look through, though, which is all that really matters to me since I realized how expensive they are.
Also, I had hoped that I might receive some samples with my KnitPicks catalog as I’ve heard happening to other people. Alas, no. I’m still very disappointed with their summer yarns. I don’t understand why they rely so much on lace, sock and other thin yarns. I don’t consider myself a knitter requiring instant gratification, but I mainly use yarns that are worsted or heavier, and even their yarns marked worsted are rather on the thin side.
Aww.. a kitty May 6, 2005
… that hacked up a colorful ball of yarn! Lion Brand had a new super bulky line of yarn called Big. Kinda an ironic name for a yarn sold in 35 and 44 yard balls. Well, at least it isn’t a novelty yarn! [via]
Discovering Jo-Ann’s May 6, 2005
Today’s great discovery is that Jo-Ann’s is an affilated Amazon store. That means you can use any Amazon gift certificates you may have on your Jo-Ann’s order, and right now they are offering free shipping over $25 – a deal not normally available on the regular Jo-Ann site (though there are codes available to do just that). I just ordered 7 skeins of Patons Divine (truely the most finger-twisting name I’ve come across. I kept typing “Patrons Devine”) at this week’s sale price, with free shipping, while using up the rest of an Amazon gc I had. Not too shabby!
The one downside is that I had to order the pattern booklets I wanted from Elann instead. The books Jo-Ann’s sells would compete with Amazon’s own sales, so the whole books/patterns section is missing. However, Elann’s prices on the patterns were actually better, so it all worked out.
