Olympic Broadripple Socks

Pattern: Broadripple Socks (Magic Loop)
Yarn: Cascade Fixation #9298 (variegated hot pink), 2 balls
Needles: 40″ Addi Turbo circular, size 3
Began: 2/10/06
Completed: 2/25/06

The rules of the Knitting Olympics said to choose a challenging project, one requiring some sacrifice, but one that was possible to complete in 16 days. I believe I chose well. It was definitely a challenge to knit so much every day and on only one project. To some measure, I have also succeeded at demystifying smaller gauge socks. Before this the only sock pairs I had completed were worsted. These are sport-weight. Fingering is next.

But what I believe is the happiest result of the Knitting Olympics is my discovering Cascade Fixation. I found the stretchiness of Fixation a dream to work with, and the fact that it is wool-free pleases allergy-prone household members. I’ve also heard that it can be machine washed and dried. I foresee Fixation becoming my go-to sock yarn for gifts.

Never one to miss a chance to double up, these also count as my February socks for the Sock-A-Month Knitalong!

* How Green Was My Valley (marvelous Oscar winner), Solomon & Gaenor (great period romance), The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain (tremendously charming small town tale), Human Traffic (a bit too smart for its own good but still entertaining), and Twin Town (muddled storytelling but worth a watch for its Welshness)

Congrats! Broadripples are one of my favorite patterns, and I love that color.

    I liked The Englishman…It’s a charming movie.

Those are the best pics of that pattern I’ve seen so far. I haven’t tried it, but now that I can see it better I really like it. Love the color you used, too. Congrats!
